Do you want them back to seek revenge? Do you want them back because you now realize that they were the best thing that ever happened to you and that your life is worse off without them? If you answered “yes” to either of the first two questions, you need to do more soul searching before you consider trying to get your ex back; you need to make sure it is for the right reasons, and that those reasons are healthy for both people involved. Now that the severe emotions are out of the way, why did you break up? Was it something they did? Was it something you said? Was it mutual? Once you figure out the real reason that you broke up, decide if that reason can be fixed. Sometimes fixing can take professional counseling. Sometimes all it takes is a real, honest, heartfelt apology. Each situation is different, and once you examine the entire picture, you should be able to decide which road is best for you to take.

Once you understand why the two of you make a better couple than two singles, tell your ex. Find out their reaction to your findings and see if they feel the same way. Often times it is easy to pick each individual apart without realizing how great the “whole” is. This is often overlooked and can be a main cause of the separation.

So be prepared to meet your ex with confidence, humility, and honesty. With these three things, you should be able to have a heartfelt conversation and decide if becoming a couple again is an option. Remember, it has to be a mutual decision in order for your relationship to work.
