There are hundreds of reasons why a relationship might not work out. Sometimes, people are just too different while other times one partner feels that they are not loved or respected. Relationships take work and if both partners are not committed, then there is no way that the relationship can work. To avoid a breakup, try these tips.
Talk to your partner. Many times a partner may do something that annoys you or even hurts your feelings and they have no idea that they did anything wrong. If you don’t tell them, there is no way for them to know because they can’t read your mind! Talking is essential to avoiding arguments or resentment. No matter how bad or minor the problem is, if it is discussed in a calm and rational manner, it won’t be a problem anymore. Fights often come about from something miniscule that happened weeks earlier. For example, if your partner never puts his dishes in the sink and you hate that but never tell him anything about it, he may not realize he’s driving you crazy. Later, after you are full of resentment because you’re always picking up after him, you might blow up over some minor thing and he’s left angry and confused because he doesn’t understand. Now both of you are angry and the underlying problem is still there. Talking must occur to avoid a breakup.
Respect and trust your partner. If you respect your partner, they will respect you in turn. You don’t have to be a doormat but you should treat them well. You chose them after all and at all times, even if you’re angry or disgusted with them, you need to respect them. Trust is vital, both because you respect those you trust and because jealousy will kill any relationship. It’s okay to be a little jealous – in fact, it’s normal and healthy. However, it’s not okay to drive your partner crazy. And remember to avoid temptations. If there is someone in the office trying to give you extra attention, don’t find yourself alone with them. These things can help avoid a breakup.
