Marriage is a huge step in any person’s life. Many women get married and later find out that their marriage isn’t the happiness they were hoping for. Many men end up finding the same thing. With 2 out of 3 marriages ending in divorce, how can you hope to keep a happy marriage?
While it may seem that a happy marriage is impossible when you consider how many marriages end in divorce, the truth is that with some hard work and a lot of dedication you can have a happy marriage. Marriage is not something that is to be taken lightly – it requires work from both partners. The most perfect marriages are those where both parties are committed to making it work and both try their best to keep things happy.
Communication is the key to a happy marriage. If you are unhappy with your spouse, you need to tell them. Don’t yell and scream; they won’t listen and will only feel like you are attacking them. Instead, try to stay as calm as possible. If you are simply discussing things, they will not feel the need to get defensive and you won’t have a huge argument. You have to be on the same page about things in order for a marriage to work. Don’t make huge purchases without talking to your spouse for instance. If you want children but your spouse doesn’t, that is a problem that could interfere with a marriage being a happy one.
Make sure that you show your love. Perhaps you really want to watch the next episode of your favorite sitcom but your spouse wants to watch a movie that they’ve been looking forward to for three weeks. Sacrificing your sitcom for them to be able to watch their movie is a great way to show your love. Hug them, do little things for them and just be affectionate to keep your marriage happy. Your spouse will do the same for you automatically. You should also make sure that you spend time together. Do things that you both like, so that you can always make sure that you are connected. If you are always in one room and your spouse another, you can’t connect as a couple and there is no way that your marriage can be a happy one.
